Bahia is the fourth most populous Brazilian state after São Paulo and the fifth-largest in size encompassing an area of 567,295m2. Its capital city Salvador sits at the north of Brazil’s biggest bay comprising many of the state’s dreamy beach destinations of pristine white sand, coral reefs and surf and is the top tourist destination in the entire northeast region. To the north of the city, the famous green line (or BA-099) connects areas of great ecological importance, namely the Praia do Forte and Costa do Sauipe and a region known as the Costa dos Coqueiros – containing many of the regions top tourist resorts.
The Imbassai Reserve is a region of significant ecological merit surrounded by dunes which run alongside the river. It has recently become more recognised as its potential for eco tourism with lots of opportunity to explore the protected natural surroundings which are only accessible on foot. 65km from the airport in Salvador and 10km from an established 18 hole golf course. This 130 hectare development sits within the reserve. When complete it will include 3 hotels (one of which will be managed as an ecological resort) and four residential condominiums combining villas, apartments, sport and leisure clubs, golf training, a 4 hectare lake, equestrian centre, shopping area and cultural event platforms, all of which overlook 1000m of white sandy beach.
