Pamporovo is a well known ski and mountain resort in the heart if the Rhodopes Mountains, some 85 km south of Plovdiv, the second biggest city in Bulgaria and 15 km from Smolyan, the main district centre.
The development is perched on the Studenetz saddle of the mountain at an altitude of about 1700 m above the sea level.
Pamporovo may in no way be referred to as a winter resort only. Many consider it to be one of the best and most promising mountain resorts in Europe.
