Estonia is a small country located on the Baltic Sea and is one of the most sparsely populated countries in Europe. Estonia is about the size of Switzerland, yet is only inhabited by one and a half million people. The name “Estonia” is derived from the people who inhabited region in the first century AD, these people were called the “Ests”.
Estonia is also home to the highest peak in the Baltic region; Suur Munamagi rises 318 meters above sea level and is a famous tourist attraction. A less well-known fact is that Tallinn is the city in which the first Christmas tree was used in 1441. A fraternity of merchants put up a Christmas tree in the town hall square and danced around it.
Aside from a great variety of historic artefacts, Estonia also offers visitors a combination of being an ex-Soviet country, as well as a current member of the European Union. Some of the many interesting sites to visit are an old Soviet army base, and Tallinn’s old medieval city walls.
When you’ve experienced enough culture, the Estonian beaches are a great place to find relaxation. Estonia is also the likely to be the only EU country, outside of Scandinavia, where the natural wildlife has been preserved, as it was hundreds of years ago. As the country used to be part of the Soviet Union, many areas were closed off for military purposes, leaving the forests untouched. Species that are extinct in other parts of Europe, can be abundantly found in Estonia, such as wolves, bears, elks, deer’s, some rare bird species and a great variety of vegetation.
Estonia offers the foreign investor a great number of advantages; its EU membership ensures a stable and booming economy, culture and wildlife currently attract a great number of visitors to the region, and property prices are very reasonable and show great growth potential.
